Clean streets and rivers for Bangkok: restoring the Pioneer canal
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer canal in Bangkok; $600 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world1,822 views
The Pioneer canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 103 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 63 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $600 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $330
• Tools and protective gear: $60
• Waste removal and skip hire: $210
I hope life is good to you.

Hope it all works out, Udom. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. After 22 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
keep going. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Buenos Aires this morning.
hang in there. More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Bangkok.
