Clean air and water for Jakarta: restoring the Baobab hillside
Volunteers are restoring the Baobab hillside in Jakarta; $350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇩 Indonesia1,419 views
The Baobab hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 48 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 146 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $195
• Tools and protective gear: $45
• Waste removal and skip hire: $65
• Signage and educational materials: $45
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Fani.
Sending good thoughts, Fani. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My neighbor in Accra donated after I showed her your page. Take care.
This could happen to any of us. Wish I lived closer to Tallahassee so I could bring a meal. All the best
Praying for you. Shared this with my family. Love from El Paso.
Hang in there, Fani. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Blessings
