Clean air and water for Bengaluru: restoring the Sycamore canal
Volunteers are restoring the Sycamore canal in Bengaluru; $350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇳 Bengaluru, Karnataka, India501 views
The Sycamore canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 111 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 42 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $45
• Waste removal and skip hire: $70
• Native saplings and stakes: $235
Thanks for reading all this.
Updates from Nandini
Thank you all. We're at 33% now ($115). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts.

Sending strength, Nandini. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
Thinking of you and your family, Nandini. Your post was clear and honest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from San Diego.
Thanks for sharing this, Nandini. More neighborhoods should do this. Sent it to 30 people at work. Blessings
