Abuja
Chioma was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in July. The oncology team at Abuja University Hospital has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in October. She will be away from work for about 10 weeks. Chioma is 25, worked as a bus conductor until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Abuja University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $730 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $45 • Transport to Abuja University Hospital: $155 • Scans and lab work: $170 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • Wishing you peace. Shared it with a few friends. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Embakasi!

    • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Chioma

      • Nnamdi CokerOwnerAnswerID verifiedPhoto verified

Sure. The biggest one is chemotherapy and medication not covered, $730. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Happy to explain more.

    • wishing you peace, Nnamdi. Get well soon. Blessings

      • Gave what I could, wish it was more. My husband and I read this together. Love from Cartagena.

        • Hope it all works out. I hope things turn around soon. After 11 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything

          • Thanks for sharing this. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
