I'm caring for my father, who's 77. After a stroke last July Hailu can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Hailu desperately wants to stay at home. I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer. Hailu worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back. Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference. Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies. Where the $150 goes: • Hospital bed and mattress rental: $35 • Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $45 • Medication and prescriptions: $70 Thank you for reading my story.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Hailu.

Hospital bed and mattress rental is $35 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Appreciate you taking the time.

  • So sorry you're going through this, Habtamu. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
