I'm caring for me, who's 87. After worsening Parkinson's disease Dilani can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Dilani desperately wants to stay at home. I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer. Dilani worked all of her life as a shopkeeper, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back. Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference. Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies. Where the $1,100 goes: • Part-time carer (eight months): $850 • Medication and prescriptions: $135 • Hospital bed and mattress rental: $60 • Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $55 Thanks for being kind about this.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Dilani!

    • It's all in the list in the story. part-time carer (eight months) is the big one at $850, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Happy to explain more.

  • Sending good thoughts. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double

    • You're not alone. Hope this works out for you. Please keep us posted. Blessings

      • Sending love. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My colleague had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
