The flood damaged 31 homes in the Eastgate neighborhood. We're raising funds for repairs, supplies and temporary shelter.

Bakersfield
The flood hit the Eastgate neighborhood on 7 June. My home was one of 31 damaged, and 10 families are still in temporary shelter at the sports club. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $2,850 goes: • Food parcels for displaced families: $650 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $840 • Clean water and purification supplies: $1,360 Every share and every dollar helps. - Silvia

Updates from Silvia

  1. Small update. $2,037 so far, we've started the first stage.

  2. Update from Bakersfield: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 56% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,346 in total) I made the first payment toward food parcels for displaced families. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
