Abebe's final semester of a diploma in hospitality management in Jimma
A first-generation student, Abebe needs help covering tuition for the final stretch of a diploma in hospitality management.

I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a diploma in hospitality management at Jimma Community College, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a barista to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $550.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a first-class average, and my faculty supervisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Jimma Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $550 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $175
• Exam and lab fees: $30
• Final term tuition: $345

This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Thinking of Jimma
