A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Luxor
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community fridge - we need $500 for materials.
🇪🇬 Luxor, Luxor, Egypt676 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 148 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $500 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $45
• Safety equipment and signage: $60
• Materials: $395
With deep gratitude,
Fadi

rooting for you. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in.
Wishing you the best, Fadi. I hope things turn around soon. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
