A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Jacksonville
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at Lotus Primary School that will serve 370 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Lotus Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $1,600.
It will serve about 370 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Materials: $1,150
• Permits and inspections: $120
• Safety equipment and signage: $175
• Tools hire and delivery: $155
