San Jose
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Lotus bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,250. It will serve about 353 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $2,250 goes: • Materials: $1,400 • Permits and inspections: $180 • Safety equipment and signage: $370 • Tools hire and delivery: $300 Thanks for reading all this.

  • Thanks for sharing this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best
