A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Los Angeles
Volunteers in Los Angeles are raising $3,650 for a sensory garden for children with autism at the old Liberty bus depot.
🇺🇸 Los Angeles, California, United States1,050 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Liberty bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $420, and the remaining cost is $3,650.
It will serve about 317 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,650 goes:
• Materials: $3,000
• Permits and inspections: $175
• Tools hire and delivery: $475
Every share and every dollar helps.

so sorry you're going through this. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Love from Laval.
best of luck. I hope things turn around soon. Sent it to 18 people at work. All the best.
Best of luck. Great idea, hope you get there. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Blessings.
you're not alone, Declan. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes.
Thinking of you, Declan. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Thinking of Los Angeles.
