A rainwater harvesting system for the old Acacia bus depot: help our neighbors in Cairo
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the old Acacia bus depot that will serve 527 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Acacia bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $400.
It will serve about 527 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $400 goes:
• Materials: $230
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
Updates from Sawsan
Thank you all. We're at 63% now ($251). I'm honestly stunned. the first invoice got paid this week.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($115 in total) I made the first payment toward safety equipment and signage. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
We're at 11% thanks to 3 of you. the plan for materials is now scheduled. More news soon. - Sawsan
