A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Mumbai
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at Baobab Primary School that will serve 370 neighbors.
🇮🇳 Mumbai, Maharashtra, India514 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Baobab Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $350.
It will serve about 370 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $350 goes:
• Materials: $250
• Permits and inspections: $30
• Safety equipment and signage: $20
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
