A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Nice
A community-led a free library and reading room at the Liberty health centre yard that will serve 367 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,000.
It will serve about 367 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.

• Materials: $2,450
• Permits and inspections: $135
• Safety equipment and signage: $195
• Tools hire and delivery: $220
