Restoring the Liberty canal: a volunteer-led project in Monterrey
Help us clean and replant the Liberty canal before the October planting window closes.
🇲🇽 Nuevo León, Mexico967 views
The Liberty canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 120 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 179 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $850 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $460
• Tools and protective gear: $150
• Waste removal and skip hire: $125
• Signage and educational materials: $115
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Best of luck. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Thinking of Monterrey
More neighborhoods should do this. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Rawalpindi.
So sorry you're going through this. Hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. All the best.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Love from Lalitpur.
So sorry you're going through this, Lucía. It takes guts to ask. Well done. God bless
