In August I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Corpus Christi Community Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $9,750, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $7,350 short. Doctors at Corpus Christi Community Hospital told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without a craniotomy. I work as a hotel cleaner, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $9,750 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a hotel cleaner have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $7,350 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,400 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,750 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $500 • Post-operative medication: $290 • Physiotherapy sessions: $1,000 • Travel and lodging for the family: $410 Thank you so much.

  1. 14% there. I made the first payment toward travel and lodging for the family. Thank you.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($899 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($208 in total) I made the first payment toward post-operative medication. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
