I live with profound hearing loss. My occupational therapist at the Fresno Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a communication tablet with eye tracking. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $4,000.
My current equipment is 12 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment I could join the school sports day. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $4,000 goes:
• communication tablet with eye tracking: $3,350
• First-year servicing plan: $400
• Fitting and training sessions: $250
