A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in Bakersfield
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a covered market stall space - we need $1,050 for materials.
🇺🇸 United States1,490 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $350, and the remaining cost is $1,050.
It will serve about 466 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in January and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $430
• Tools hire and delivery: $330
• Permits and inspections: $290
Glad we found this place.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Zoey.
Safety equipment and signage is $430 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks for asking.
Thinking of you, Zoey. Shared it with a few friends.
Rooting for you. Looking forward to the next update. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.
Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My neighbor in Gdańsk donated after I showed her your page.
Good luck, Zoey. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. All the best.
