A college application mentor for Janet, first in the family to apply
Looking for a graduate who can spend an hour a week reviewing Janet's essays until October.

I'm Janet, 17, in my final year of high school. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study civil engineering.
I have a 3.7 average, I volunteer at a food pantry and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work.
I'm looking for an hour a week until October. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request.
Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask.
I hope life is good to you.

Keep going. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Take care.

So sorry you're going through this, Janet. Your post was clear and honest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care!
