I coached chess at Newcastle Queensway Boxing Gym from 1991 to 2007. Most of my players were between 12 and 16, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Practice always ended with the same rule: nobody walks home alone. I sing in a choir.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
