I've coached softball at Sydney Rosewood Athletic Club since 1981. Most of my players were between 11 and 16, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I keep a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

I still keep the team photo from our best season on the wall.
