I taught accounting at Kilimanjaro Middle School in Jaffna from 1995 to 2019. Most days I taught Grade 6, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
My classroom was always a bit noisy, a bit untidy and usually full of people who came for the biscuits.

The students I remember best weren't always the top of the class. They were the ones who asked "why?" when nobody else did.
