Yamini was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in June. The surgeon at San Jose University Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $17,000, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $8,550 short. my daughter has been in and out of San Jose University Hospital since June. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $17,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Yamini struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks.
