Weekly meals for families and seniors in Paarl

The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Paarl is running low just as demand rises; $350 will stock it for 10 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Friday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 26 families, and now we feed 302 each week. Donations have dropped by about 42% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Paarl market and keep every receipt. Each $15 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $350 goes: • Baby formula and diapers: $155 • Refrigeration and electricity: $45 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $150 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Ahmed

Updates from Ahmed

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($155 in total) the plan for refrigeration and electricity is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • You're not alone. Hope this works out for you. My neighbor in Berlin donated after I showed her your page. God bless.
