Bread & Beans Kitchen: keep the shelves full this rainy season
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Pune is running low just as demand rises; $350 will stock it for 8 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Thursday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 9 families, and now we feed 313 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 38% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 13 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Pune market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $350 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $240
• Baby formula and diapers: $75
• Refrigeration and electricity: $35
