Pietermaritzburg

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Thursday from the back of the parish hall. We started with 8 families, and now we feed 266 each week. Donations have dropped by about 58% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 17 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Pietermaritzburg market and keep every receipt. Each $15 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $600 goes: • Baby formula and diapers: $125 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $390 • Refrigeration and electricity: $85 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Annelie

Updates from Annelie

Update from Pietermaritzburg: I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. We're at 26% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Quick update: $125 raised so far (21%). I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them. - Annelie
Good news. Because of your gifts ($70 in total) the first invoice got paid this week. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
