Valve repair surgery for Lillian: covering what insurance won't

After a large ovarian cyst, Lillian was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst. My surgeon at London Community Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,300, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $1,150 short. Doctors at London Community Hospital told me a large ovarian cyst will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,300 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,150 goes: • Post-operative medication: $330 • Physiotherapy sessions: $690 • Travel and lodging for the family: $130 I hope life is good to you.

  • Keep going, Lillian. Hope the doctors have good news. After 25 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
