Two weekends of roof repair for Andrés, a disabled veteran in Iztapalapa

Could you spare one long weekend to help repair a leaking roof in Iztapalapa?

I'm a disabled veteran living in Iztapalapa. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 3 places, and the kitchen is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $740, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the roofing sheets and nails. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for three or four volunteers who can help over one long weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is to be comfortable with heights or willing to help from the ground. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

I was going through a tough time and this person's support was invaluable. They didn't judge, just helped. That kind of genuine compassion is rare these days.

  • Stay strong. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected

    • You're not alone. Shared it with a few friends. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Greetings from Badagry.

      • Keep going, Andrés. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Greetings from Bursa.
