Grand Rapids
Gonzalo is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying an agriculture degree at the Grand Rapids Institute of Technology, and is one semester away from graduating. He has worked as a delivery rider to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $3,700. The registrar has said Gonzalo can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Gonzalo has a first-class average, and a department head has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Gonzalo would lose his place and scholarship eligibility. Gonzalo isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $3,700 goes: • Exam and lab fees: $175 • Final term tuition: $1,750 • Outstanding tuition balance: $1,775 Thanks for being kind about this.

Updates from Yolanda

  1. Update from Grand Rapids: I met with the university and confirmed the amounts. We're at 33% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Quick update: $841 raised so far (23%). the plan for exam and lab fees is now scheduled. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($600 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
