My family left Syria 12 months ago after the conflict closed our school and clinic. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Los Angeles. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was an engineer in Syria, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Los Angeles Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $1,200 goes: • Winter clothing and school supplies: $400 • Language classes and bus passes: $600 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $200 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Updates from Douglas

  1. 23% there. I made the first payment toward winter clothing and school supplies. Thank you. - Douglas

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($295 in total) the plan for winter clothing and school supplies is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Quick update: $426 raised so far (36%). we've started the first stage. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  • Good luck. Looking forward to the next update. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Blessings!

    • Thinking of you and your family, Douglas. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. All the best.
