Istanbul
I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a diploma in hospitality management at Istanbul University, and I'm one term away from graduating. I have worked as a warehouse packer to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $750. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a first-class average, and my department head has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Istanbul University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $750 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $230 • Final term tuition: $370 • Exam and lab fees: $70 • Textbooks and materials: $80 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Hope things get better soon, Meltem. Your post was clear and honest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
