In September I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Berlin Community Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $4,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $3,200 short. Doctors at Berlin Community Hospital told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $4,000 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $3,200 goes: • Hospital stay (5 nights): $1,900 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $540 • Physiotherapy sessions: $760 Thanks for being kind about this.

Updates from Matthias

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,549 in total) the plan for physiotherapy sessions is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
