Stop the eviction: 2 months of rent for Wangari's family in Mwanza
After a sudden layoff, Wangari is 2 months behind on rent and has a court summons for non-payment from the landlord.
🇹🇿 Mwanza, Tanzania770 views
When my hours were cut in half in July, Wangari fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $650.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, the family must leave.
There are two young children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Wangari has started working evenings as a cleaner, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $650 goes:
• Rent arrears (2 months): $460
• Late fees and court costs: $30
• Utilities in arrears: $15
• First month of rent as a buffer: $145
With deep gratitude,
Mugisha
