For nine years I have run a neighborhood bakery in Benin City. In August, a storm that collapsed the roof took a commercial oven. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Wednesday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 10 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. I'll buy equipment from local suppliers and post photos and receipts as I go. Where the $200 goes: • Working capital for the first month: $45 • Initial stock: flour, butter and sugar: $80 • Shop repairs and licensing: $75 Thank you so much.

  2. Update from Benin City: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 20% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. working capital for the first month comes first ($45) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.

  • You're not alone, Adewale. Hope this works out for you. I'll check back for the next update.
