In January I was diagnosed with colon cancer. My oncology team at Moscow Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in March. I was told to expect about 8 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 52, I worked as a bus conductor until January, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Moscow Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $3,000 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,800 • Scans and lab work: $270 • Transport to Moscow Cancer Centre: $260 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $220 • Household costs while unable to work: $450 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Yana

  • Good luck. I hope things turn around soon. I'm in social work myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care.

    • So sorry you're going through this. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Toronto.
