Standing with Ramon: Hodgkin lymphoma treatment costs

Ramon is facing Hodgkin lymphoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In August I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at Fresno University Hospital has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 10 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 57, I worked as a hairdresser until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Fresno University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $7,750 goes: • Scans and lab work: $1,500 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $630 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,600 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,020 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Ramon

Updates from Ramon

  1. Small update. $2,873 so far, I made the first payment toward chemotherapy and medication not covered.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ramon

    • Ramon M. AguilarOwnerAnswer22h ago

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. scans and lab work comes first ($1,500) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Let me know if you want more detail.

  • It takes guts to ask. Well done. Love from Tiruchirappalli.

Wishing you the best. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Take care

        • Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Thinking of Fresno.

          • Gave what I could, wish it was more. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of Fresno

            • hope things get better soon. Get well soon.

              • Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care.
