In May I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Rome Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 32, I worked as a tailor until May, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Rome Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,950 goes:
• Transport to Rome Cancer Centre: $430
• Household costs while unable to work: $660
• Scans and lab work: $860
