Standing with Dermot: Hodgkin lymphoma treatment costs

Dermot is facing Hodgkin lymphoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Dermot was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in October. The oncology team at Dublin Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in January. He will be away from work for about 6 weeks. Dermot is 51, worked as a construction supervisor until October, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Dublin Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $6,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,100 • Scans and lab work: $740 • Transport to Dublin Regional Medical Center: $480 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $540 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,240 If you're reading this, thank you.

        • Hope the doctors have good news. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Spanish Town.

          • Hope it all works out, Emer. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Take care.
