Rides to dialysis three times a week for Ellie in San Jose

A rota of drivers to San Jose Regional Medical Center would keep Ellie on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Ellie has been on dialysis for 2 years and until recently drove to San Jose Regional Medical Center alone. After a foot amputation, Ellie can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 3 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 31 km each way. Ellie is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. Thank you so much.

  • Hope it all works out, Wyatt. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.

    • Hope the doctors have good news. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of San Jose.

      • You're not alone, Wyatt. This could happen to any of us. Sent it to 28 people at work.

Stay strong, Wyatt. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Put this on a community board in Paarl this morning. Greetings from Paarl.

          • Stay strong. Your post was clear and honest. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Love from Medellín
