Restoring the Sycamore riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Istanbul
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Sycamore riverbank needs $350 for saplings and equipment.

The Sycamore riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 104 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 175 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $175
• Native saplings and stakes: $150
• Signage and educational materials: $25
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($35 in total) I made the first payment toward native saplings and stakes. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Thank you all. We're at 3% now ($10). I'm honestly stunned. the first invoice got paid this week. - Uğur

Keep going. Great idea, hope you get there. Wish I lived closer to Manila so I could bring a meal. Thinking of Istanbul.

keep going, Uğur. Looking forward to the next update. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
