Restoring the Pioneer wetland: a volunteer-led project in Manila
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer wetland in Manila; $350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇵🇭 Philippines1,016 views
The Pioneer wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This January, 42 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 63 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Native saplings and stakes: $225
With deep gratitude,
Mary Grace

Praying for you. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Da Nang
hope it all works out, Mary Grace. Hope you get there. Blessings.
Rooting for you, Mary Grace. Shared it with a few friends. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too!
