Restoring the Pioneer canal: a volunteer-led project in Pune
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer canal in Pune; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇳 Pune, Maharashtra, India996 views
The Pioneer canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 40 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 67 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $160
• Tools and protective gear: $55
• Waste removal and skip hire: $65
• Signage and educational materials: $20
Thanks for being kind about this.

Best of luck, Anjana. Hope you get there. We're a small family in Moscow but we're thinking of you.
Sending strength. Shared it with a few friends. After 20 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Bahir Dar
