Restoring the Lotus wetland: a volunteer-led project in Joliet
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Lotus wetland needs $2,200 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 Illinois, United States1,358 views
The Lotus wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 106 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 41 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,200 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,200
• Tools and protective gear: $300
• Waste removal and skip hire: $510
• Signage and educational materials: $190
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Nada.
Native saplings and stakes is $1,200 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page.
Keep going, Nada. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My neighbor in Birmingham donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Joliet.
Rooting for you, Nada. Looking forward to the next update. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Blessings.
Sending strength. Looking forward to the next update. Love from San Diego.
