Restoring the Liberty canal: a volunteer-led project in Makassar
Volunteers are restoring the Liberty canal in Makassar; $200 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇩 South Sulawesi, Indonesia1,439 views
The Liberty canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 47 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 179 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $200 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $130
• Tools and protective gear: $30
• Signage and educational materials: $40
Thank you for reading my story.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Dedi.
Sure. The biggest one is native saplings and stakes, $130. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Happy to explain more.
best of luck, Dedi. Shared this with my family. Sent it to 35 people at work. Love from Pattaya.
Your post was clear and honest. My neighbor in Santarém donated after I showed her your page. God bless
Sending love, Dedi. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. God bless.
