Restoring the Cedar riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Lagos
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Cedar riverbank needs $250 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Lagos, Nigeria1,714 views
The Cedar riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 60 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 56 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $130
• Tools and protective gear: $25
• Waste removal and skip hire: $45
• Signage and educational materials: $50
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

more neighborhoods should do this. My colleague had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Greetings from Los Angeles.
Wishing you peace. This could happen to any of us. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. God bless!
