Restoring Freedom Creek: a volunteer-led project in San Diego
Volunteers are restoring Freedom Creek in San Diego; $2,750 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇺🇸 United States695 views
Freedom Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 55 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 61 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,750 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,800
• Waste removal and skip hire: $530
• Tools and protective gear: $420
Thanks for reading all this.

Take care, Randall. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I'm in nursing myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.
Sending strength, Randall. Shared this with my family. Wish I lived closer to Athens so I could bring a meal. Love from Accra.
Wishing you the best, Randall. Hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of San Diego
