Restoring Cedar Beach: a volunteer-led project in St. Petersburg
Volunteers are restoring Cedar Beach in St. Petersburg; $2,100 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇺🇸 St. Petersburg, Florida, United States1,063 views
Cedar Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 61 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 83 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,100 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,150
• Tools and protective gear: $260
• Waste removal and skip hire: $380
• Signage and educational materials: $310
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Thinking of you, Brian. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't give up. Thinking of St. Petersburg.
Stay strong. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Thinking of St. Petersburg.
Hope it all works out. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
rooting for you, Brian. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Take care.
