Plant 898 native trees around the Maple wetland in Mombasa
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple wetland needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇪 Mombasa, Kenya431 views
The Maple wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 53 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 57 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $170
• Tools and protective gear: $80
• Waste removal and skip hire: $70
• Signage and educational materials: $30
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Hope things get better soon, Collins. Looking forward to the next update. Take care
sending strength, Collins. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Love from San Francisco.
Thinking of you and your family, Collins. Shared this with my family. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
Good luck. Great idea, hope you get there. Wish I lived closer to Tiruchirappalli so I could bring a meal. Thinking of Mombasa.
