Plant 3,950 native trees around Unity Beach in Ottawa
Volunteers are restoring Unity Beach in Ottawa; $2,200 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇨🇦 Canada1,348 views
Unity Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 71 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 106 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,200 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $550
• Tools and protective gear: $560
• Waste removal and skip hire: $830
• Signage and educational materials: $260
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($837 in total) the first invoice got paid this week. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Take care, Isaac. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My neighbor in Zaporizhzhia donated after I showed her your page. Greetings from Zaporizhzhia
So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Sent it to 37 people at work. Thinking of Ottawa
Keep going. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My husband and I read this together
